Google webfonts
Google is here to save the day once again (well almost) with their Google Webfonts technique. This allows for a simple custom fonts implementation for you web page designs. Its actually dead simple to use the fonts google provide, much easier than font-face, cufon and sifr. Thank you Google!
However, it’s not all perfect. Here’s a rundown on some issues that makes Cufon, Typekit and SIFR still the main choice for most of our projects.
- The technique is basically font-face. But it’s greatly simplified. The problem with this techinque is that the fonts look really bad in Internet Explorer. The fonts are jagged and pixely.
- You can only use the fonts Google provides. There are not so many at the present time, and we do not know how many they are aiming for.
- Only open-source fonts are supported. That means that SIFR/typekit is still the only option for embedding licensed fonts.
